Erythrophobia ( Fear Of Blushing ) A Cure??
Hey Everyone Zach here 🙂
Most of you may have landed here because you/we/I suffer with Erythrophobia which is a fear of blushing.
I read an article where researchers at Murdoch University ( in Australia I believe ) have stated that blushing anxiety could become a thing of the past.
One of the main goals of this research as well as finding cures for Erythrophobia is to reduce the number of sufferers opting for the drastic approach of ETS surgery, which destroys certain nerves that control the blood vessels to your face.
you can read more about ETS surgery here.
You and I both know how desperate we become looking for a cure for blushing, ETS is not the way. Remember it is an invasive surgery, short term results can be positive long term can produce serious side effects. The side effects I know of are drooping eyelid or Horners syndrome, collapsed lung, severe sweating and patients have even died during the procedure. But people are opting for this surgery because they do not realise there are other ways to cure their Erythrophobia.
Murdoch University Erythrophobia study
So the study at Murdoch Universit,y resulted in Professor Peter Drummond and Sally Gatt concluding that instead of focusing on finding cures, potions, pills, surgery etc for the blush itself. We need to be concentrating on treating the anxiety behind the blush.
I am led to believe that Murdoch University has been the first to examine the underlying psychological causes that lead to a fear of blushing. This important research leads the way to further studies and clinical therapeutic research to help treat and cure Erythrophobia.
If more is understood then it would lead the way to many more tailored treatments to cure a person’s fear of blushing. I cured my blushing by nearly 90% by trying a targeted hypnosis treatment which has helped many with Erythrophobia. You can try it yourself here
Most people with blushing/flushing/Erythrophobia will focus on finding medical, or natural methods to help reduce or cure the physical cause of blushing. No one really talks about trying to reduce the fear of blushing.
Drummond and Gatt
It was found in Drummond and Gatt’s research that people with a fear of blushing had a strong connection between blushing and negative social outcomes.
In their research paper published by Australian Psychological Society, Professor Drummond and now Clinical Psychologist Ms Gatt found that Erythrophobia sufferers feel different to other normal people. They are so worried about what people may think of them or say about them, that they tend to hide their thought and feelings for fear of ridicule.
But it was found that these feelings can be important as to one of the reasons why the fear of blushing is triggered.
Also observed by the study it was found that Erythrophobia can vary in intensity depending on an individual’s personal experience, in both recent events and negative experiences in childhood.
Erythrophobia could be triggered in childhood
Fear of blushing could of been triggered in childhood, you could have had a bad upbringing. Maybe intense bullying, being put down teased about your blushing.
I was severely bullied as a child, I’m talking head flushed down toilets, hung out of a train window, beaten up, dinner money stolen daily, thrown in stinging nettles, shot with air guns etc. Horrible experiences and also very negative upbringing, stepfather from an early age paired with an angry Mother. It didn’t bode well for us children and that’s a whole separate blog talking about my childhood 🙂
But yes I didn’t factor in that a negative childhood could of led to a fear of blushing, I mean I do suffer from other anxieties and depression but this is an exciting study carried out by Drummond and Gatt. They mention that schema-based therapy could assist in dealing with your fear of blushing, but I’m guessing we will have to wait for further research and their conclusions.
In my conclusion, I already found a similar cure really before I found this study on Erythrophobia.
So read here how I cured my blushing by up to 90%
Then try this blushing hypnosis and see how it works for you
Thanks
Zach
